Claire Sugden has welcomed the Health Minister’s announcement of 100 extra training places for Nurses in Northern Ireland.
Miss Sugden said : I welcome the announcement of 100 extra Nurse training places. This follows recent news of plans to increase District Nurse and Health Visitor posts. Many, particularly older people, in rural areas rely on these services.
Nurses consistently underpin our health service. In an increasingly pressurised working environment they have continued to provide everyday care and to increase awareness through health promotion.
Faced with rising patient numbers and staff shortages, I hope that an increase in training places will add to our nursing workforce and contribute to providing much needed relief.
As demands on the health service grow there is a need for a long term solution. The new task group on nursing must help to strategically address the current difficulties.
With an acute hospital at Causeway I know first-hand of the excellent work nurses do on the front line of the health service. I welcome any support which helps them to continue providing compassionate care and reassurance to people everyday.”
