Sugden welcomes extra funding for Social Enterprise Hub Project

1 Mins read

Extra funding to extend the Government’s Social Enterprise Hub Project to 2017 has been welcomed by Claire Sugden, Independent Assembly Candidate for East Londonderry.

Miss Sugden said : “I welcome extra funding to extend the Government’s Social Enterprise Hub Project to 2017.

Improving local communities for the people in them through tackling existing problems makes social Enterprises a vital piece of our social fabric. Putting the profits back into the community makes them a gift that keeps giving.

I know of many social enterprises which are transforming areas across East Londonderry. Yet the nearest support hubs for the Executive’s social enterprise programme are in Londonderry and Ballymena. Support should not be confined to large towns and cities.

I have met with lots of social enterprises and listened to their needs and concerns. There are many close knit communities here who are sustained by voluntary groups operating as social enterprises. Many struggle to carry out their work effectively.

Support to develop social enterprises would enable organisations and groups to sustain both themselves and their communities. I look forward to working with these groups and to lobbying for increased support for them after the May election.”
