Two Arrested Locally For Creating Fake Facebook Accounts

Police in Coleraine are investigating an incident of harassment where fake facebook profiles have been created and obscene messages have been sent to a number of persons.

Police have been able to use technology to identify and arrest 2 suspects.

In a social media status Sgt Burns said “I would like to remind all Internet users that offences can be committed under the Communications Act 2003. If you use social media to post derogatory comments from a fake profile under the mistaken belief that you are anonymous, you are wrong. Police will find you and you will be liable for arrest.
