UKIP assembly candidate for East Londonderry, Steven Parkhill, believes the increase of 100 pre-registration nurse training places increase is great news for the future wellbeing of the country.

“I am pleased to hear the recent announcement by Simon Hamilton, of investment to create an increase of 100 pre-registration nurse training places starting this autumn.

This 15% increase is great news for the future wellbeing of the country; nurses play an integral role in the healthcare system, often correctly referred to as the heart of healthcare. Nurses play a key, vital role in the treatment, safety and recovery of acutely or chronically ill or injured people, health maintenance of the healthy, and treatment of life-threatening emergencies in a wide range of health care settings.

Nurses have key roles to play as hospitals continue their quest for higher quality and better patient safety. I welcome the news that in future there will be more nurses and improved front-line services.  Hopefully this represents another step towards creating the world class health service to which we all aspire to have.”
