Ulster Unionist Councillors William McCandless and Darryl Wilson last night attended the launch of Coleraine’s Road to the Somme project in Coleraine Ulster Scots Resource Centre.
The project will tell the stories of some of the local men and women from Coleraine and District who served in World War 1.
Coleraine Festival Committee has secured Lottery funding to run a series of workshops on various topics relevant to the project.
They will also be producing exhibition materials to feature in 2 exhibitions which will be held in Coleraine Town Hall in July and November 2016, and a booklet telling some of the stories will be produced to coincide with the end of the project in November.
Coleraine Festival Committee is working in partnership with other community organisations, including Coleraine Ulster Scots Regeneration Group and the Royal British Legion, to deliver a programme of events which will pay tribute to all the men and women from this area who served and to leave a lasting memorial to their memory.
This is a community led project and high levels of community involvement will greatly enhance it.
We would particularly like to see young people participate and hope that local schools will be interested in contributing to this project.
