The popular on-line news site Belfast Live, owned by the Trinity Mirror Group, yesterday published an article listing 11 supermarkets throughout Northern Ireland that had scored a Food Hygiene Rating of 2 or less.
In this list, Milltown Spar in Ballymoney was reported as having scored a rating of 2, however upon inspection this information proved to be false as the store in fact has a 5 Star rating, the highest awarded by the Food Standards Agency.
In a statement given to Causeway Coast Community, the Manager of Milltown Spar said the following: “Following the recent article in Belfast Live , we would like to inform you this information was totally incorrect. Milltown Service Station has a 5 star food hygiene rating.”
“We are currently investigating the source of this information. We would like to insure all our customers that we have a 5 star food hygiene rating and all our Deli staff have the appropriate food hygiene certificates.”
While the article remains on Belfast Live’s website, they have removed Milltown from the list, and the article has been removed from their social media pages.
