Councillor Russell Watton has said there is widespread concern in East Londonderry regarding last week’s incident at a junior orange parade in Belfast

In a statement, Cllr Watton said : “I would like to congratulate my colleague Ian Shanks and South Belfast P.U.P. for the assistance they gave to South Belfast Young Conquerors F.B.”

“At a meeting last week 35 members of the band and supporters turned up to give statements to the Police Ombudsman regarding the attack by PSNI officers on the band and junior Orangemen returning from their annual parade in Carrickfergus.”

“Members of the P.U.P. are also in the band so they were there on the ground during the unwarranted attack. They don’t have to ask what happened, they were there. There is widespread concern in my constituency of East Londonderry regarding Tuesday’s incident. There is a genuine belief that a two tiered policing and justice system is in operation.”

“Wooly statements from Unionist leaders denying this are so out of touch as to be scarcely credible. Fortunately there will be an election soon; I will be standing with those in the Loyalist community who have been attacked, demonised and vilified Let Loyalism get a voice in Stormont; if we don’t then the same self serving out of touch ivory tower figures will be back spouting their usual rubbish. It’s time for change. Use your vote.”
