Wilson commends organisers of Armoy Road Races

1 Mins read

On Friday and Saturday of last week, the annual Armoy Road Races took place in and around the village of Armoy.

Commenting on the event, Councillor Darryl Wilson said : “Thousands of people flocked to the North Antrim village to watch the road racing spectacle. Many top road racing names from within our Borough and beyond were present to take part in what turned out to be a fantastic days racing.

“There was a wonderful atmosphere in the paddock and around the circuit where families, members of the public and enthusiasts mingled with the riders and their teams.

“It was instantly apparent that this event was focused solely on road racing and road racing enthusiasts, and had not become engulfed by commercialism and external influences , as many other large sporting events have over the last number of years. In my opinion this is why so many people are attending and thoroughly enjoying this event.

“On Saturday 11 electrifying races took place, all run efficiently and effectively by the clerk of the course Bill Kennedy and the rest of the Armoy team. It was an added bonus to see the local riders performing so well at one of their “home events”.

“This weekend was my first visit to Armoy Road Races, it certainly won’t be my last. I would like to take this opportunity to thank and commend the organisers for their tireless work in organising this signature event which is now one of the key dates on our sporting calendar locally and nationally.”
