Women Aloud initiative aims to raise profile of Woman’s Writing Scene

Women Aloud NI is a 1-day initiative which aims to raise the profile of the women’s writing scene in Northern Ireland.

On International Women’s Day,Tuesday 8 March, 14 events will take place right across Northern Ireland. The events will involve more than 100 women writers reading their work – and talking about their work – in bookshops, libraries, museums, theatres, town halls, pubs and arts centres.

There will be 2 Women Aloud NI events taking place in the North Coast area :

  1. Waterstones bookshop, 10am – 4pm : 16 writers from the local area will be taking part in Women Aloud Coleraine. Writers from Ballymoney, Ballycastle, Coleraine, Garvagh, Portrush and Portstewart will be reading and speaking between 10am and 4pm. There’ll be an opportunity to listen to poetry, flash fiction, and excerpts from memoirs, short stories and novels [No booking is required. Entry is free of charge].
  2. Portstewart Library, 10.30am – 12pm : Jane Talbot will be reading from, and talk about, her collection of dark faerie tales, The Faerie Thorn and Other Stories [Booking required. Entry is free of charge]
