The Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre is set to receive a significant upgrade worth £225,000. The news was announced by Councillor Darryl Wilson, who expressed his delight in supporting the initiative.
Councillor Wilson, who has been using the gym facility for around 30 years, commented that some of the equipment on offer appears to have been there since the 1990s and has become quite tired, worn, and outdated.
The upgrade will include a range of new equipment, flooring, and AV & AC equipment for the existing area. This will include the delivery, supply, and installation of various items of cardiovascular equipment, fixed-resistance weights equipment, functional strength and conditioning equipment, and spin bikes.
The gym and spin studio will also receive an upgrade, including repainting and lighting. The works are expected to begin in June 2023, and there will be some disruption to gym opening times during the upgrade.
The upgrade is expected to bring significant benefits to gym-goers in the area, providing access to modern, high-quality equipment and facilities. Councillor Wilson said he was looking forward to seeing the end result of the upgrade.
