Sinn Féin Councillor Sean Bateson has said housing including for rural communities needs to be a priority.
Speaking on confirmation from the Housing Executive that there is a projected need for further social and affordable housing within Kilrea and Garvagh, the Bann Councillor said:
“Housing needs tests were conducted by the Housing Executive last year following our engagement with them at a local level.
“It is positive that these tests have highlighted the need for further social and affordable housing for Kilrea and Garvagh, local residents have been highlighting this for some time.
“While these housing tests have highlighted the need for more social housing in these areas, we also hear consistently from rural families about the need for more housing in areas such as Glenullin and Ballerin, and the challenges of trying to build in rural areas.
“Sinn Féin is committed to delivering more houses and to ensure that planning policy is fit for purpose to ensure that people in rural communities can build a home and a life where they grew up.”
