Hunter, Cara Hunter welcomes movement on road safety issues, Kilrea

SDLP East Derry MLA Cara Hunter has welcomed a commitment by the Department for Infrastructure and PSNI to tackle road safety concerns in Kilrea.

The East Derry MLA said she has received over a dozen letters from residents living on the Drumagarner Road detailing a multitude of concerns from excess speed to unsafe road layout.

Ms Hunter said:

“This has been an ongoing issue that SDLP has raised on multiple occasions in the area and residents have been left frustrated at the lack of action to date to ensure the road is safe for everyone to use.  Both DfI and police have committed to actions that should improve the road layout and address speeding concerns however I would urge them to implement these measures as soon as possible.

“Road safety in rural areas is an issue that is raised with my office regularly. So far this year eight people have lost their lives on roads in Northern Ireland, therefore it is important that agencies work together and take swift action to keep residents, motorists and pedestrians safe.”
