1.5+ million golfers in five countries to read all about Royal Portrush and golf in Northern Ireland

Top golf writers from Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands and India are visiting Northern Ireland this week, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI. The group – which includes journalists from daily newspapers, popular golf magazines and websites – has a combined audience of over 1.5 million readers, or potential golf holidaymakers for Northern Ireland.

The journalists were here to find out all about The 148th Open at Royal Portrush this summer and to play the famous Dunluce course. They also tested their golfing skills at Royal County Down and Royal Belfast.

Tourism Ireland is taking every opportunity to capitalise on the success of this summer’s Open at Royal Portrush and the excellent worldwide publicity around the tournament – which showcased not only our great golf, but also our magnificent coastline and scenery. Tourism Ireland will continue to remind golfers everywhere that The Open took place here in 2019 and that Northern Ireland is home to some of the world’s greatest golf courses.

Siobhan McManamy, Tourism Ireland’s Director of Markets, said: “We were delighted to invite these leading golf journalists to Northern Ireland, to experience some of our top courses, including Royal Portrush, and see for themselves the superb golf on offer here in Northern Ireland.

“Tourism Ireland has an extensive programme of promotions under way, to highlight our world-class golf and encourage more people to consider a golfing holiday in Northern Ireland. Golf is the world’s largest sports-related travel market and we are working hard to drive home the message that a golfing holiday in Northern Ireland is about much more than a round of 18 holes – the combination of our world-class courses and our unique brand of hospitality plays a key role in attracting golfers.”
