1+ million Spaniards to read all about Northern Ireland and our Game of Thrones connection

1 Mins read

Leading Spanish travel journalists and bloggers have been visiting Northern Ireland, checking out our Game of Thrones filming locations. The group, whose combined readers and followers number more than one million Spaniards, was invited here by Tourism Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism NI.

The journalists’ action-packed itinerary included an immersive Game of Thrones tour at Castle Ward in Co Down, visits to Tollymore Forest and Leitrim Lodge, as well as a Game of Thrones-themed banquet at The Cuan in Strangford. They also travelled along the Causeway Coastal Route, stopping off at various filming locations and tourist ‘hotspots’ including the harbour at Carnlough, Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, Ballintoy Harbour, the Giant’s Causeway and the Dark Hedges. The highlight of the visit was a helicopter ride along the Causeway Coast, to get an aerial view of the spectacular scenery which makes Northern Ireland so special for visitors.

Barbara Wood, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Spain, said: “With the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones set to air this spring, Tourism Ireland is taking every opportunity to remind fans of the show’s connection to Northern Ireland. The newspaper articles, blogs and social media accounts of these Spanish journalists and influencers are extremely popular, so their visit is a really good opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland to a wide audience of prospective holidaymakers. Their articles, posts and photos will be seen and shared by their readers and followers – inspiring them to come and explore the destination for themselves.

“Tourism Ireland undertakes a busy publicity programme around the world each year to raise the profile of Northern Ireland – and visits by journalists and influencers are a key element of that programme.”

Game of Thrones ‘fever’ is on the rise once again, with anticipation mounting among fans everywhere about the long-awaited eighth and final season, which is set to premiere in April. Tourism Ireland is preparing to launch a brand new campaign, showcasing Northern Ireland once again to millions of Game of Thrones fans worldwide.
