The new revamped Dunluce centre is now set to open for the 2019 season.
UUP councillor Norman Hillis has expressed disappointment that as the planning application is still being processed only having been lodged in the autumn it is unlikely the Dunluce Centre will be fully operational until 2019.
“Having had the opportunity to have a briefing from the developer and the architectural team recently the overall scheme looks really good with a very large budget and some brilliant innovative ideas.
I do have reservations about the need for any accommodation to be included in the scheme but overall the new Dunluce Centre should be a game changer for the town and will be well worth waiting for. It is vital that the scheme progresses without delay as costs maintaining the empty Dunluce centre are racking up. Costs over the last 14 months are in the region of £21,000 with two thirds of that being attributed to rates and insurance.
The delayed opening means that more than likely Water World will need to remain open for the 2018 season although a final decision has yet to be made.”
