£2297 Raised At The Caring Caretakers Big Breakfast

1 Mins read

The Annual Big Breakfast took place on Friday 2nd November at the Lodge Hotel which raised a staggering £2297.

In a social media post after the event David said “The caring caretaker would like to thank the management and staff of the lodge Hotel for a magnificent breakfast they served today.  I would also like to thank all those that came and supported me. This was the biggest ever breakfast, we had.  170 adults plus 8 children turned out to support  me. We raised £2297.

This will make a big difference to my charities. A special thank you to Shylene, Teresa, Denis and Stephen Smyth. This means a lot to me, thank you.”

Aghadowey born David Boyle MBE also known as the Caring Caretaker, started raising money for local charities in 1998. Initially he was approached by a local postman, Jack Fyfe, to do a sponsored diet. Boyle said, ‘Jack and I both knew there wasn’t much weight coming off.’ A local policeman then suggested for Boyle to do more fundraising events and to keep a running total – this was the start of the Caring Caretaker.

Since 1998, Davy Boyle has organised many events including sponsored walks, breakfast fundraisers, street collections, music concerts as well as the annual Christmas sit out. In 2000 the first Christmas sit out took place. During his first sit out, Boyle began with only a chair and an umbrella, where he sat in the centre of Coleraine from morning until night during December until Christmas Eve.
