Head torches at the ready as 26 Extreme joined headline sponsor firmus energy and Causeway Coast Council to officially launch the firmus energy Northern Lights Night Race taking place in Portstewart on Friday 8th March 2019 at 7:30pm.

Kicking off on Portstewart’s Promenade, the firmus energy Northern Lights 10k Night Race is a fast coastal course with low elevation, the perfect route for an early 2019 personal best. Starting and finishing in Portstewart, runners will wear head torches and follow a way-marked route of flashing beacons along the 10k course. 26 Extreme has been organising events on the North Coast for over eight years and are best known in the area for designing and delivering truly unique events, such as the award winning Causeway Coast Marathon.

Director of 26 Extreme, Ian Cumming is prosperous about the new event.

“We are delighted to welcome firmus energy as the headline sponsor of the inaugural Northern Lights Night Race. This new event to the North Coast invites runners across the province to run along the beautiful coastline that the area is famous for. This event forms part of a six race series with events in the Mournes, Stormont and Gosford which kicked off in January 2019.

This event is extremely significant for us as it is the first ‘Plastic Smart’ run on the island of Ireland. Every item on this run will be either reused, recycled or biodegradable. We are looking forward to working with the team at firmus energy to host a truly unique event.”

Speaking on behalf of firmus energy, Angeline Murphy, Marketing Manager is delighted to be headlining the first event of its kind:

“Portstewart is a key town in our network area in which we have over 1,000 customers to date. In the first half of 2019 we will be investing over £250,000 in the local area to make natural gas available to even more homes and businesses. Having already invested £3million in the area since we entered the seaside town, firmus energy is here to stay and we are delighted to continue our support to the local area through the firmus energy Northern Lights Night Race.”

This event can be entered singularly, or as part of the Night Edition Series. Registration fee is £26.50 and includes a medal, race bib, timing chip, entertainment, refreshments and lots of fun for all the family.
