Golfers around GB – and potential golf holidaymakers for Northern Ireland – are set to read all about this year’s Irish Open at Portstewart and Northern Ireland’s world-class golf, following a recent visit by leading GB golf journalists.
The journalists – representing media outlets like the Daily Mirror, Daily Mail and The Sun, with a combined circulation of more than 4.8 million readers – were here as guests of Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI. The group had the opportunity to test their skills on this year’s venue for the 2017 Irish Open, when they played the Strand Course at Portstewart Golf Club. The journalists also played Royal Portrush – venue for The Open in 2019.
Promoting golf in Northern Ireland is a major focus for Tourism Ireland, in GB and in other important golf markets around the world. Tourism Ireland is taking every opportunity to highlight the 2017 Irish Open at Portstewart, which provides a fantastic platform to put golf in Northern Ireland in the global spotlight once again, showcasing what we have to offer to golfers around the world.

Other Tourism Ireland activity to highlight golf in Northern Ireland this year includes co-operative promotions in conjunction with top GB golf tour operators, like Your Golf Travel, Golfbreaks and Club Choice Ireland; online ads on seven popular golf websites until July, linking through to great golf information an offers on Ireland.com; a Tourism Ireland stand, with industry partners, at the BMW PGA Championship at the famous Wentworth Club in Surrey, in May; and regular ‘Golf Ireland’ e-newsletters to the Tourism Ireland database of more than 7,000 golfers around GB, promoting golf in Northern Ireland, golf industry offers and the Irish Open.
