Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council has confirmed 85 members of its staff are furloughed at present.

Most of the staff have come from the Sports & Wellbeing department with 71 currently on furlough, along with seven from Tourism & Recreation and seven from Community & Culture.

This is a reduction on the numbers from 2020 when 106 staff were furloughed in the last lockdown.

The furlough scheme, which has been extended until April 30, 2021 sees employees receive 80% of their usual salary for hours not worked, up to a maximum of £2,500 per month.

Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council are paying furlough staff 80%, with the option for staff to use accrued annual leave to top it up to 100%.

A council spokesperson said: “The council currently has no plans to make staff redundant as a result of the pandemic.”
