Almost 2,000 local business with the Causeway Coast and Glens area have successfully been given grants of £10,000 under the Small Business Support Scheme.

The information was revealed in an answer to a written Assembly question to the Minister for the Economy, Diane Dodds, by East Londonderry MLA Maurice Bradley.

Commenting, MLA Bradley said: “I understand from the Minister’s response, that as of the second week in June, there were another 299 businesses still awaiting a decision on their applications.

“These grants will be a game changer for some local firms – it may be the difference between them reopening again after the pandemic.
“My office has been assisting many local businesses with queries in relation to these grants, and I am really pleased that so many businesses have been successful so far.

“As our town centres begin to reopen again it is vital that we continue to support our local traders.

“Over the past few weeks it has been pleasing to see stores reopening.

“There are shoppers around the towns of our Borough, and we are starting to get the buzz back again.

“I would remind everyone that as we get used to the new normal, it is vital that we continue to adhere to the Government guidelines about hand washing and social distancing,” concluded MLA Bradley.
