A three-year-old girl has been hospitalised following an animal attack in the Drumeen Drive area of Garvagh.

The incident happened shortly after 2pm yesterday, Sunday 26 April 2020.

The exact circumstances of the attack are not yet clear but Causeway Coast Community understands the animal was a Rottweiler belonging to her father.

A NIAS spokesperson said “We despatched one Emergency crew to the scene. The Charity Air Ambulance with HEMS crew on board were also tasked to the incident.

Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was transported by road to the Royal Victoria Hospital for Children, Belfast.”

The family has had the animal humanely destroyed since the incident.
