DUP MLA Maurice Bradley has said he is saddened to learn of the closure of the Applegreen store in Coleraine.
The closure will effect ten employees and the store will close on Wednesday, October 31.
“The closure of any business in our town is never easy to swallow, it is a difficult time for the staff especially as we are so close to the Christmas period,” said the MLA.
MLA Bradley added: “I was in touch with Applegreen headquarters yesterday and they said that it was ‘no longer economically viable’ to keep the store open. I am pleased that they have advised me that they are working closely with the employees to support them and their families.”
In a statement they said: “Applegreen announced on 17 October that it will be closing the Applegreen Coleraine store on 31 October 2018. This difficult decision has been made following a strategic review of the business in Coleraine, where it has been concluded that this store is unfortunately no longer economically viable.
“As a result of this decision, the 10 Applegreen employees based at the Coleraine store have been put on notice of redundancy. We would like to take this opportunity to commend these employees for their hard work and dedication, and thank them sincerely for their service. We are working with these employees to support them through this difficult period.”
