Sinn Féin MLA, Caoimhe Archibald has sent her condolences to family of Martin McGuinness.

Speaking following the news of his passing the East Derry MLA said:

“It is with great sadness that we learnt of the death of our friend and comrade Martin McGuinness.

“My thoughts at this time, are with Martin’s family, his wife Bernie, their children and grandchildren.

“Martin was a giant of a man, a passionate republican and a peace builder who worked tirelessly for peace and the re-unification of his country.

“No-one has done more for the peace process than Martin.

“He was both a friend and a mentor and will be sorely missed.

“I wish to extend heartfelt condolences to the McGuinness family.”
