Sinn Féin MLA, Caoimhe Archibald supported Unison staff at the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine today.
The East Derry MLA said:
“Our healthcare staff provide a vital service, they do so under difficult circumstances and with high levels of commitment and dedication. Undoubtedly however, lower grades are not adequately recompensed for the work they do, and this must change.
“Sinn Féin supports the introduction of the Living Wage and we want the public sector to become a Living Wage Employer.
“The Causeway hospital is crucial in providing acute primary care for the north coast and I very much welcome assurances from the Health Minister that the Northern Trust has no plans to move a from the two-site acute model currently in place within its area, with acute services being provided at Antrim Area and Causeway hospitals. She stated these hospitals work collaboratively and network with other acute services.
“This is an important assurance for the staff and for those who use the Causeway hospital.
“The future vision of the health service is one of collaboration, integration and improvement in service delivery and this will require reform and reconfiguration of across all services.”
