East Derry Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald called on residents in the Coleraine area to be extra vigilant following a number of bogus telephone calls over the weekend falsely informing customers that their water supply had been contaminated.

Caoimhe Archibald said:

“I am calling on customers in the Coleraine area to be extra vigilant after a number of bogus telephone calls over the weekend claiming to be from NI Water falsely informing customers that their water supply had been contaminated.

“Attempted telephone and online scams are an ongoing and increasing problem with the ‘Scamsters’ always attempting to devise more sophisticated and plausible ways to try and secure your personal computing and online banking details.

“I would urge people to be constantly vigilant in particular to the wide variety of attempted cold call scams that are going on.

“Never give out your bank details, simply hang up and call Waterline, the organisation they are claiming to be from or the PSNI to report it.”
