Ballycastle man convicted of benefit fraud

A man was convicted at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

James Burns (41) of Whitehall Avenue, Ballyvoy, claimed Employment and Support Allowance totalling £12,898 while failing to declare capital. He was given a four month custodial sentence suspended for two years.

Mr Burns is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department for Communities.
