A Ballycastle man accused of taking a Toyota Rav4 without the consent of the owner and causing an accident in the run up to Christmas has had his case sent to Antrim Crown Court.

Seamus Patrick Laverty (55), of Stroanshesk Park, is alleged to have committed the ‘aggravated vehicle taking causing damage’ offence on December 21 last year.

On the same date he is charged with driving whilst disqualified at Ramoan Road, Ballycastle.

The defendant appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Friday May 25 for a Preliminary Enquiry – the legal step to send a case to a higher court.

He is now due to appear at Antrim Crown Court on June 22 for arraignment on the charges.
