Ballymena Means Christmas: A Christmas story out of this world

1 Mins read

BALLYMENA’s renowned Christmas advert returns on the small screen for another year in the spotlight, with the introduction of The Martian and The Pigeon to Ballymena.

In a new chapter, of the hugely successful Ballymena Christmas advert, Ballymena gets an unexpected visitor from the Martian who has had a crash landing, far away from his home, on Christmas Eve. Finding friendship in the most peculiar places, the Martian is welcomed to town by the Pigeon, as they set out on a mission to get the Martian back to his family in time for Christmas.

Touring the shops and streets of festive Ballymena in search of the broken piece of his spaceship, the unlikely friends begin to lose hope in getting the Martian home to his family. Until they get a visit from a familiar face, the very special Ballymena bear, Bertie, who shows that Christmas magic can take you anywhere, especially home.

Alison Moore, Ballymena Business Improvement District (BID) Manager, said, “Ballymena has quickly become renowned for our Christmas celebrations each year and the annual Christmas advert is a huge part of that, as it is the official starting point for the festive season in Ballymena.

“In a bid to do things a little differently this year, I am delighted to welcome two new characters to our town, demonstrating that friendship can blossom in the most unexpected of ways. Of course, not forgetting the return of our wonderful, Bertie the Bear, as he continues to spread his Christmas magic.

“Ballymena is a very friendly town and our doors are open over Christmas to all sorts of characters, particularly those that want to do their Christmas shopping. So we invite you to come along and experience the magic of Ballymena, after all Ballymena means Christmas!”

In the lead up to Christmas, every Saturday this December, the Ballymena BID will have entertainment to ensure shoppers and visitors enjoy their time in the town.

Join us as we kick start the Christmas season, with festivities known to be out of this world, in Ballymena on Thursday 16th November as we switch on the Christmas lights in association with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. ‘The Martian and The Pigeon’ will be on view for the whole town to see.
