Bann Bridge Flooding Requires More Action

Local Sinn Féin Local Government Candidate Leanne Peacock has said that further action needs to be taken by Road’s Service to alleviate flooding issues at and on the approach to the Bann Bridge outside Rasharkin.

Miss Peacock said, “I have been in contact with Road’s Service over recent weeks and months regarding serious flooding issues on the road approaching and at the Bann Bridge between Rasharkin and Kilrea.

“While I welcome the additional signage which has been erected following contact and appreciate that outlets have been cut along the side of the road in an attempt to expedite the drainage of the carriageway, the issue still persists and is very severe at times of rainfall and high water levels in the Bann River. This causes a serious hazard for road users at this location particularly at night.”

“There have been a number of accidents in this area over recent months and even years and while I acknowledge that flooding may not be the primary cause of some of these accidents, it is clear that road safety overall should be of the highest priority in this location to improve the safety for all who use this very busy road.”

“I have contacted Road’s Service again on this issue following contact with myself by many in the local area who use this road regularly and will continue to lobby until sufficient drainage is put in place .
