Two bat roosts have been uncovered at Causeway Coast & Glens Council offices in Ballycastle, Sheskburn House.
In a statement a council spokesperson said ;
“The roosts have been discovered in the main building, and appropriate action is now being undertaken.
“A small number of staff have been relocated in the interim.
“Bats are highly protected species and the appropriate surveys, mitigation plan and licenses are being progressed.”
Ballycastle Councillor Padraig McShane claims that Council has known about bat infestation for a number of years.
He said ;
“Staff in the building are terrified to mention the issue as they believe their place of work and their jobs will be targeted.
“The coding practices will form part of an investigation as will the refusal to remedy the bat colony in Sheskburn House.
“The building and the staff are the forgotten yet vitally important part of Causeway Coast and Glens Council.
“Toilet facilities have been reduced and the kitchen has had evidence of bat infestation. I am calling on the Environmental Health Department to make the building fit for our workers immediately.
