Bateson elected Mayor for Causeway Coast and Glens

1 Mins read

Councillor Sean Bateson has been confirmed as the new Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

He took up the position, which he described as a ‘great honour’ at last night’s Annual Meeting.

His selection means he is the first male Mayor since the Council’s inception.

In his address to the Chamber, Councillor Bateson said :

The Deputy Mayor for the year ahead is Councillor Sharon McKillop.

Speaking shortly after the AGM, Ms McKillop said ‘I’m delighted and deeply privileged to be appointed to this esteemed position.

I will do my utmost to represent everyone from all corners of our Borough in my role as Deputy Mayor. This is a year that will see the best of our area showcased across the world. Only this weekend we will host the 90th anniversary of the North West 200 and in a few weeks the British Open will also come to Royal Portrush.

During this year this council will also bestow the Freedom of the Borough on the RAF and see the unveiling of a memorial plinth to mark the service of our brave security force men and women who served in the UDR regiments during Operation Banner. Whilst our eyes are fixed on the future it is right that we do not forget the past.’
