DUP MLA Maurice Bradley has welcomed a commitment by Infrastructure Minister, Nichola Mallon to assist the hospitality industry.
Last week, Minister Mallon revealed that she has written to Councils in Northern Ireland asking them to a take a flexible and pragmatic planning approach to on-street seating for cafes and bars to assist with social distancing.
Bradley said: “Last week I put in a written question to the Minister for Communities asking for a relaxation on the laws for on-street seating in a bid to give our local businesses a chance to get going again after this pandemic.
“Minister Mallon’s thinking on planning is another way of assisting the industry.
“We must do all that we can to help businesses get back on their feet again, and long delays in planning will do nothing to assist them.
“With social distancing likely to be in place for some time, it will be vital that businesses have space to get customers in to make it worth reopening.
“Additional on-street seating would be advantageous for many businesses within the Causeway Coast and Glens area.”
