A proposal for 130 homes in Coleraine has been welcomed by East Londonderry MLA Maurice Bradley.
If approved by planners, the homes will be built at the former Coleraine Hospital site.
A Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) has been submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council by JP Homes in respect of the development.
A consultation will now take place to find out community views on the plans.
MLA Bradley said: “I am delighted that this site, which has been the target for vandals in the past few years will finally be utilised.
“I would encourage as many as possible to go to the consultation event in the Lodge Hotel on Tuesday, December 12 and put forward their views.
“I will be meeting with the developer in the coming weeks and I am hopeful that this development may be a mix of social and private accommodation. On a day to day basis I see the need for more social housing in the Coleraine area, any addition to social housing stock in this area would be very welcome.”
MLA Bradley went on: “I will be pressing the historical importance of the work house building when I meet with those involved in the planning stages of this development.
“This building, which dates back to the 1800’s is a big part of Coleraine’s history, and it would be wonderful to see it cleaned up and utilised in some way.”
