A man who downed two bottles of Buckfast and three Magners caused criminal damage by punching the window of a Coleraine pub because he was in a “bad mood”.

Alan Robert Evan Owen (35), unemployed, of Cranfield Court in Portstewart, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday and was fined £200 and also has to pay £300 for the damage which was caused on October 20 last year.

A prosecutor said police received a report at 1am that a male had punched a window at Railway Arms bar in Coleraine and walked off.
Police later located him with injuries to his hand and took him to the Emergency Department at the Causeway Hospital where the defendant said he believed he had punched the window and was “sorry”.

He pleaded guilty to the charge in court where it was heard the defendant said he had been in a “bad mood”.

Defence solicitor John Murphy said Owen had a considerable amount of alcohol and because he had a ring on his finger the window was damaged when he punched it as he walked past.
