Civic reception held for shared school science project award winners

1 Mins read

A Civic Reception has been held for two primary schools who worked together to win a UK-wide award.

Portstewart Primary School and St Colum’s Primary School were the winners of the 2017 Roll Royce Eden award.

It is presented annually to the school which makes the most significant contribution to ecology education.

Speaking after the reception, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Joan Baird said: “I was delighted to offer my congratulations to the teachers who spear-headed this fantastic project which brought 400 pupils from both schools together. Not only did they come away with the Eden award, they were also named runner-up in the overall Rolls Royce science award. This partnership working is a fantastic example to us all and I have no doubt that with their shared energy and enthusiasm, they will continue to forge close ties in the future.”

The schools’ project, called Marvellous Movers, saw pupils work together to design and create their own vehicles.
