Ulster Unionist Cllr Darryl Wilson has praised the organisers, participants and spectators of this year’s Irish Open.

Cllr Wilson said “In the lead up to this year’s Irish Open, the event was being billed as one of the flagship sporting events of the year, and it certainly didn’t disappoint, exceeding all expectations over the last few days where almost 100,000 people visited the tournament.

Television Pictures of our spectacular coastline were also being seen around the world by millions of viewers.

People from all backgrounds came together to enjoy this world class event which was held in Portstewart this year

This is a great advertisement for our local borough and for the Northern Ireland, helping to boost tourism potential and by having a positive economic impact locally.

I would like to extend my thanks to the organisers, participants, council staff, emergency services and to everyone else that made the event a huge success.
