Closing of Herring Pond in Portstewart

BT Coleraine

Councillor Angela Mulholland has contacted Council officials regarding the closure of the Herring Pond in Portstewart.

Cllr Angela Mulholland said ;

“I have asked for a written explanation of why this facility is closed, what work needs to be carried out and the associated costs involved.

“Coming out of lockdown and restrictions being lifted, people need the opportunity to swim if they chose in a safe environment.

“This closure will force people to swim in other locations which would be less favourable or safe. This closure will also impact on the mental health and wellbeing for those swimmers who use this facility daily.

“I have liaised with members of the Portstewart Traders Association and Portstewart Community Association to gather support for a quick resolution of this problem. The community of Portstewart is willing to work with Causeway Coast and Glens to get this facility open once again, sooner rather than later.”
