Edemore private nursing home situated on the Castlerock Road in Coleraine will close in the coming weeks.
16 staff will be without jobs and 11 residents of Endenmore will be left to find alternative accommodation before the festive season.
The private nursing home cared for those with mental health, dementia and physical disabilities.
Speaking to Causeway Coast Community, Councillor William McCandless said “Situated on the Castlerock Rd. Coleraine this 5* Private Residential Home which has operated for 28 years will no longer be able to provide the service it has prided itself on in our community caring for people with dementia, mental health issues, physical disabilities and care in senior years.
Residents in Edenmore benefitted from the following services which were offered : Safety and Security, Staff on duty 24/7, Privacy, Nutritional meals provided, Companionship, Supervision of medication and Peace of mind for the relatives. There are many things we fail to realise the true value of until they are missing and gone from our community. Edenmore will be one of them. Residents needs and requisites were individually catered for and was a home from home for them.
When I spoke to the JOINT OWNERS Ella O’Reilly and Florence Dhand to discuss their plight their main concern was for the eleven families who will be affected by the closure and who now have to find accommodation for their loved ones and for the sixteen members of staff who will be unemployed.”
