Coleraine ‘street preacher’ David McConnell faces five ‘common assault’ charges

A MAN who is well-known as a ‘street preacher’ and for handing out Gospel Tracts in Coleraine town centre, is accused of five charges of ‘common assault’.

David McConnell (63), of Liswatty Road, Coleraine, is alleged to have, according to the charge sheet, assaulted the same female on four dates in January and February this year.

He is also charged with assaulting another female and resisting a police officer in the execution of her duty.

The case was mentioned at Coleraine Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena on Monday October 12.

Defence barrister Thomas McKeever said he will be consulting with the defendant to get his attitude to the charges.

No further details surrounding the alleged circumstances behind the charges were given to the court during a brief hearing.

The case was adjourned to October 19.
