All eyes will be on Portrush later this summer as The Open Golf Championships roll into town.
As the top names in the golfing world prepare to tee off at Royal Portrush it is expected that there will also be a plethora of famous faces in town to see the spectacle.
Getting ahead of the game at the weekend was a member of the core volunteer team of Portrush parkrun who cheekily replied to popular ITV and SKY Sports presenter Ben Shephard, who had been tweeting about attending a parkrun in England, inviting him to take part in the weekly run along the East Strand. Sam Linton, a keen runner and volunteer at Portrush tweeted: “Here’s one to try.
“You’d be very welcome to Portrush parkrun right beside where the British Open Golf is in the summer’
When it launched in September 2012, Portrush parkrun became the first beach parkrun in the world to be run entirely on sand.
Hundreds attend this weekly timed event not just for the sporting side of it, but also for the social side.
Ben, who is on our television screens daily hosting popular quiz show Tipping Point, replied ‘Ahh, now that I would love to try!’ – parkrunners keep your eyes peeled for Ben in the coming months!
