Council Agree To ‘Pay The Piper’

Plans can now be finalised for the annual pipe band championship following approval for extra funding.

Last month the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association of Northern Ireland requested additional grant funding ( £10,000 ) due to a change in venue resulting in “a number of challenges”.

Speaking to Causeway Coast Community this morning Councillor Trevor Clarke said “The North West Pipe Band Championship isn’t just an important event for Portrush’s traders, it is known to be an impressive musical and cultural spectacle.

The street parade alone is something very special and I say that as someone who not only watches it but who has participated in it.

Above all it is a great family day out. I am delighted funding has now been confirmed and organisers can finalise plans to allow it to go ahead on 3rd August.”

Commenting Councillor Richard Holmes said ‘This is a popular and much-loved event in the pipe band calendar and brings significant economic benefit to the area.’
