Council Cleanup Causing Grime In The Diamond

Speaking to Causeway Coast Community this afternoon Councillor William McCandless said “I would wish to pay tribute to the good natured attitude of many of the businesses and retailers in the Diamond area for their long suffering and patience with the “ clean up “ operation which is occurring in preparation for the Armed Forces Day event on Sat. 23/6.

I was contacted this morning by a few premises which suffered some water ingress and others where the resultant sludge has been trampled into their premises by customers. When I spoke to the Managers of the premises I would have to compliment them on their good natured spirit and tolerance.

I have discussed the matter with the Chief Executive and he assures me that the Diamond will be cleaned and ready for the big event on Saturday.

Unfortunately some of the crowd barriers were thrown into the river at Christie Park which has certainly caused annoyance to the council officials who have to retrieve them.”

The event will attract tens of thousands to the town and it will hopefully be enjoyed by all.
