A Councillor in Portstewart has met with DFI Roads and residents following concerns on the increasing number of road traffic accidents on the 60mph speed limit stretch of Agherton Road outside Portstewart.
Councillor Mark Fielding said “ There have been several road traffic accidents on the National speed limit (60mph)stretch of Agherton Road since the start of 2020 involving vehicles travelling from Portstewart to Coleraine via Agherton Road and onto Cromore Road.
The accidents are occurring on Agherton Road predominately in one direction when vehicles leave the 30mph speed limit onto the national speed limit (60mph) during frosty and icy conditions in the winter period.
Residents would like measures to reduce speed particularly given the increasing number of vehicles using this route to travel to Coleraine.
I arranged a site meeting with DFI Roads and residents, where a number of recent accidents and historic incidents were highlighted, with DFI Roads agreeing to review the current road situation.”
