Chairman of Council’s Leisure and Development Committee, Cllr Richard Holmes, has called for perspective in the comments being made over the Tourism Event Funding Programme.
“At the L&D Committee meeting of 12th March concern was expressed across all parties at the loss of funding to Heart of the Glens Festival and the Danny Boy Jazz Festival. The Director, Richard Baker, explained that changes had been made this year around the criteria and application process.
“Given the implications for community events, a decision was taken to defer to Full Council on 26th March when funding decisions will be agreed. The suitability of this fund is questionable given that it aims to cover the NW200, with a global appeal, and agricultural shows, with a more local appeal. Councillors will have to determine how these events should be dealt with in the future.
