The recent snow and freeze has turned many country roads into high danger zones.
Cllr Richard Holmes said: “A mixture of white ice and black ice following Monday’s thaw has left roads that are almost impassable.
“Inadequate salt and grit supplies in the country areas have only exacerbated the situation. One salt box on Dullaghy Rd is virtually empty after the weekend battle with snow. Little is left to deal with the black ice that has hit on Tuesday.
“Country people are great at pulling together to keep their roads open and it is vital that milk tankers are able to access the farms otherwise thousands of litres of milk end up being poured down the drain.
“I’ve contacted the Department of Infrastructure to get an update on salt and grit supplies for the country areas. We cannot face a winter without adequate salt supplies otherwise country areas will become impassable and accidents will happen.”
