A MAN is to contest a charge of having an axe as an offensive weapon in a public place saying he used it to ‘chop wood’.

That was the submission of a defence barrister for Stuart Keene at Coleraine Magistrates Court sitting in Ballymena.

The defendant (40), formerly of Sea Road in Castlerock, is accused in relation to having an axe at Sea Road on December 6 last year.

The court was told he now has a new address in Coleraine town centre.

The case has been adjourned to September.
