A woman phoned police to say her ex-partner who had called to take children to school, had “gone clean mad” and assaulted her, Coleraine Magistrates Court heard on Friday.
Johnathan William Knight (44), of Ballylintagh Crescent near Macosquin, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault.
The court heard that although the defendant admitted assault he claimed it was not deliberate but happened as tried to get past the woman to get to her new partner who was in the house.
A defence solicitor said the “red mist descended” but that the children had been outside at the time and had not witnessed the incident.
The defendant was given a two year conditional discharge.
