A man caught doing 94mph in a 60mph zone at the over-taking section of the Frosses Road near Dunloy has been told by a judge it was a “terrible speed” and he came close to being disqualified from driving.
Bartosz Bartel (38), of The Commons, Broughshane, had the offence detected at 9.09am on Halloween Day last year.
Defence barrister Michael Smyth told Coleraine Magistrates Court on Friday the defendant was overtaking slow moving vehicles.
District Judge Liam McNally said the defendant had been “hurtling” along and he faced being banned.
However, Mr Smyth said if the defendant lost his licence he stood to lose his job as as he has to travel to his place of employment and his wife and children depended upon him.
Judge McNally said it was a terrible speed “on that particular road” and gave the defendant six penalty points and a £250 fine.
