Derby day history for Bannsiders

Coleraine will be breaking new ground when they meet Ballymena United on October 17.

It will be the first time in history that the rivals have met on the opening day of an Irish League campaign.

However, the two clubs have kicked off a domestic campaign on seven occasions, with Coleraine winning five and losing twice.

The last time this scenario happened, goals from Ricky Wade and Brian Donaghy gave an Iam McFaul managed Coleraine a 2 1 victory in the Ulster Cup back on August 17 1991.

Coleraine will be hoping for a repeat outcome in a few weeks time.
