Detectives are appealing for witnesses following the report of an aggravated burglary in the High road area of Portstewart on Monday night, 10 December.

Detective Sergeant Molloy said: “We received a report around 9.40pm from the occupants of a property who had located an intruder and detained him. Officers responded and arrested a 22 year old man on suspicion of aggravated burglary. A number of items were recovered at the scene.

“He was subsequently charged with aggravated burglary and possession of a Class B controlled drug.

“The man is due to appear at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Monday 7 January. As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.

“Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around 9.30pm on Monday evening should contact detectives on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1319 of 10/12/18.”

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
